WHO WE ARE

A charity with no overheads.

FOGADD is a charitable trust founded in 2002 (charity number 1093339).  It is run by a board of trustees based in the UK.  Many of our trustees have visited or worked in Grahamstown.

FOGADD is run entirely by volunteers in England and in Grahamstown, South Africa.  The charity has no overheads, so every penny raised goes directly to supporting scholars and our education and welfare projects in Grahamstown.

You can read about our current trustees here.

And you can access our accounts, reports and newsletters here.

Our Chair of Trustees, Professor Christopher Megone, and his wife Debbie both have strong links with the education sector in Grahamstown, having lived there in the 1990's and again in 2017-18.   Their daughter Helen Megone lived in Grahamstown in 2019/20, and volunteered within the education sector.

OUR LINKS IN GRAHAMSTOWN

On-the-ground support

In Grahamstown, FOGADD works with an active group of educators and voluntary organisations across the city.  This enables the charity to identify bright, but poor, students whose life chances will be transformed by becoming 'scholars'.

FOGADD also has a well-established Grahamstown Watch Committee - individuals on the ground, who monitor every school and project we donate to.  We have close oversight of every penny spent.

There is a very short 'chain' between our funding and its recipient.  There are no 'middlemen' - FOGADD scholarship payments go direct to the school, and funding for education and welfare projects goes direct to the relevant organisation.
