PROFESSOR CHRISTOPHER MEGONE, CHAIR OF TRUSTEES
Chris Megone is a Professor of Interdisciplinary Ethics at the University of Leeds. He originally spent time in Grahamstown in 1996 as the Hugh Le May Research Fellow at Rhodes University. He returned in 2017-18 for a year long sabbatical. He also organised two cricket tours to South Africa. Chris has three children, including Helen who was born in South Africa.
MARTIN LAMB, SECRETARY
Martin is a lecturer in the education department at the University of Leeds. He has worked in Indonesia, Sweden and Bulgaria teaching English as a foreign language. Martin played in the two cricket tours to South Africa. He is married to Imelda and has two daughters.
CHRISTOPHER ILEY, TREASURER
Chris is another keen cricketer and played on both the cricket tours. Following a career in finance he has retrained as a mediator and Chairs the charity Mediation Surrey. He is married to Jackie and has two children.
ANNE KELLY
Anne is a paediatric consultant at Darlington Hospital and spent three months in Grahamstown at Settlers' Hospital during her elective in 1986. She is married to Peter (who also worked at Settlers' Hospital) and has four children.
CHARLOTTE KERLEY
Charlotte studied at the University of Leeds and after graduation spent six months in Grahamstown in 2006 teaching at a private school and undertaking voluntary work. She also spent time on an exchange with a school in Grahamstown, as a teenager. She is now working for a food supplier and has two young children.
CHRISTOPHER LAW
Chris has recently retired after more than thirty years teaching Economics, Business Studies and Critical Thinking at The Grammar School at Leeds. He has visited South Africa on two occasions, and is a very keen mountain walker and golfer. He is married to Sandra, with two sons and a very lively young Labrador.
CAI MALLETT
Cai qualified as an accountant. She worked for some time as a management consultant and currently works in insurance. She and her family visited Grahamstown in 2001, again when the Megones were living in South Africa, and in 2019. She is married to Simon and has four children.
DEBBIE MEGONE
Debbie worked in corporate finance for many years, but moved into the voluntary sector a few years ago. She currently works for Citizens Advice. She is married to Chris and has three children. Whilst living in Grahamstown, Debbie volunteered with GADRA in the science clubs set up with local secondary schools. She was also Treasurer of Child and Family Welfare, one of the charities supported by FOGADD.
SANDRA LAW
Sandra teaches English at secondary level and is a keen writer, having studied Literature and Creative Writing with the Open University. She has also taught biology, having a background in pharmacology and clinical trials. Sandra was a primary school governor for nine years, chairing the Teaching and Learning Committee. She has visited South Africa once, with her husband, Chris, with whom she shares two sons and a boisterous Lab!
CONSTANCE SMITH
Constance was a partner at international law firm Pinsent Masons for 24 years. Originally, working as a commercial lawyer, she finished her career at the firm focussing on client relationship management. She is married to Richard and has two sons.
DEREK MATRAVERS
Derek is a Professor of Philosophy at the Open University. He grew up in Grahamstown (an Old Kingswoodian) but left in 1977. He returned in 2017 for four months as the Hugh Le May Research Fellow. He is marred to Jane who accompanied him on his 2017 visit.
